AirTran starts at Daytona Beach Airport

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

_______________

Not that I am encouraging to use Daytona instead of Orlando, but here’s a nice trend… as a discounter moves in, prices go down. I found this in the Daytona Beach News-Journal. This one should probably get posted in the Atlanta Airport site.
AirTran will start daily flights to Atlanta on Jan. 11, and add daily flights to Atlanta and Baltimore on Feb. 15.

But will the discount carrier’s arrival reduce fares at the airport?

“It already has,” AirTran spokeswoman Judy Graham-Weaver said. “We announced the service Oct. 13 and immediately the competitors lowered the fares, especially to Atlanta.”

AirTran’s figures show Delta Air Line’s seven-day advance purchase ticket to Atlanta will drop from $224 to $199 when AirTran begins flying out of Daytona Beach, matching AirTran’s fare. Delta’s three-day advance purchase tickets will drop from $349 to $259 and business fares from $754 to $324, matching AirTran’s fares.

“Our prices are a direct reflection of the competition that we see,” said Anthony Black, a Delta spokesman.

United Airlines, which flies to Washington Dulles and Chicago O’Hare, also has dropped its fares out of Daytona.

“The effect on airlines’ prices should be positive for the consumer,” said Donald Franchi, a travel agent with Atlas Travel of Daytona Beach. “Since AirTran flights feed their Atlanta hub, they will be competing directly with Delta. As a result, we are seeing some price reductions on the routes where the two airlines compete.”

New Parking Lot is Open!

Florida Today has an article about the new parking lot at Orlando airport (hey, if I didn’t post this stuff, would you ever find it?).

A new parking lot opened at Orlando International Airport today, giving motorists waiting for arriving passengers a free, short-term parking area that is wireless enabled.

Drivers seeking their passengers for pickup can check e-mails, make phone calls and access the Internet while waiting in a secure parking area, which the airport is calling a “cell phone” parking lot.

Curbside waiting has been prohibited by federal regulations since Sept. 11, 2001.

The new convenience cuts back on airport congestion caused by drivers circling around while waiting to get their arriving passengers. It also saves gas.

The new cell phone lot is next to the Red Satellite Parking lot on South Access Road, and has more than 100 parking spaces available. The driver must remain in the vehicle.

How to cancel Microsoft Office Live

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

Today I am in Charlotte, NC for a corporate team meeting, and it’s late but I’m not sleepy. So, being a roadwarrior-lite (lately, anyway) I decided to try the new Microsoft Office Live Beta. I chose the Essentials package, to see if it would be useful for project management.

Well, two weeks into it, I decided I didn’t like it (at least not for the price). So I decided to cancel the beta, before I was charged.

Not easy, at all. I followed the steps to get to the Support Page, then the Cancel My Account page. But the page was empty. I tried it several times, and each time the page was blank. So I called the support number that Help finally coughed up. Then they needed to give me to another callcenter. Then another. Finally, I got the right number you need to cancel an Office Live account. To save you some time, here it is: 866 591 5483.

Available 24/7, but you’ll wait on hold for a long time. I called at 11:30PM on a Thursday night, and waited 20 minutes to speak to someone.
